The purpose of this final project is to apply many of the topics studied through the course, to another specific global issue. Since no issue is single faceted, any choice will inevitably pertain to some combination of Economic Development, Geopolitics, Regional Disparities in Meeting Basic Human Needs, and Protecting The Planet’s Life-support Systems. The task for the student is to apply at least three of these facets to the topic he or she chooses.
Multimedia project.
Oral presentation (supported with written documentation).
Topic selection:
OPEC
Afghanistan
Rebuilding Iraq
Foreign Aid
Refugees in West Africa
International Drug Trade
Significant person and their ideas/contribution to world
How should AIDS be dealt with in Africa, Middle East and North America? Why are the healing drugs to help AIDS patients so expensive?
Is wealth, food, education,resources, and technology evenly distributed in the world? How does this affect relations?
Outline:
A brief summary of the topic, divided into headings, and explaining the link to three main units of the course.
Bibliography:
5-10 sources. Variety of types of source, and origins of source are expected
Finished Project.
2000 words (for an essay) or equivalent for other outputs. Maps, graphs, and tables are to be used to illustrate the content as appropriate
Evaluation:
Outline (15%)
Bibliography (15%)
Finished Project. (70%) - see rubrics.
